The Evolution: A Global Pipeline for Adventure Cinema

RecFest is building a permanent bridge between the peaks of British Columbia and the heart of the global film industry in Los Angeles.

Moving forward, the RecFest program will remain a dedicated, permanently embedded pillar at DIFF. This ensures that the most compelling sports and recreation stories captured worldwide always have a direct pipeline to Hollywood’s premium independent film stage.

What We Look For: Defining Sports Recreation

RecFest focuses on short-form cinematic storytelling (40 minutes or less) centered around physical activities pursued for enjoyment, grit, and well-being. We celebrate stories that carry structure and competitive edge, but are deeply rooted in the passion for movement and active living rather than massive corporate league sports.

  • Runtime: 40 minutes or less (including credits).
  • Completion Window: Completed on or after June 1st, 2025.
  • Exclusivity: Must not have previously screened at DIFF.
  • Photography: High-end sports and recreation still photography vying for digital and print exhibition.
